10 Minutes to Shoot

Me and a bunch of other photographers had this mini competition where we had exactly 10 minutes to scout the place and do a shoot with the model. While everyone decided to shoot inside where there was ambient light, I decided to go out in the dark and shoot "strobist style."
Got 38 shots in 10 minutes but decided to only edit 5 of them

Urban Engagement Session in Toronto

I thought that I should share some of the engagement photos from last Saturday. I figured that maybe I should bring them in Toronto by Massey Hall and do some urban type engagements. On the way I saw this old television on the sidewalk so I thought that maybe I could use this as a prop during the shoot . Here I am walking in the streets of Toronto with my heavy camera gear and an old TV :crazy: . In the first pic, I accidentally included a guy smoking in the corner but for some reason he adds some mood in the photograph.

I just did an engagement session last Sunday morning at the Square One parking lot. As we were shooting, security came and told us that we have to leave. No shooting is allowed without a permit :sorry:. We headed to the Mississauga Civic Centre to continue the shoot. Here are some of the shots.

Not too long ago I did a portrait session for a friend of mine. Her kids were so adorable. Not certain if the eldest daugher likes the camera though. I tried adding some textures to the photos during post-production so I can avoid having the photographs to be similar as Sears Portrait.

First stop was in Hair Dynamix in Queen Street East.

Then we head down to the groom's place where there was Guitar Hero fun

After shooting with the groomsmen, with head back to the bride's house to take some pictures of her dress.

Ana and Tino's Wedding Highlight- My Last Video

As some people know, I have first started doing wedding videos before I got into wedding photography. Last November I shot Ana and Tino's wedding in Toronto. The photo session was at the Guild Wood Inn and the reception was held LeJardin Banquet Hall.

Mini Moo Cards

I just received my first set of moo minicards today. I was really impressed with the quality of the prints and for the $20USD/100pcs., you cant go wrong. They are a lot smaller than business cards but the great thing about it is that you can place different images and on each cards. These cards will be given away on my next wedding, which is happening this 16th of February.

News and Updates

It's been awhile since I posted in my blog. I hope everyone enjoyed their holidays. I thought I 'd let everyone know of what's been happening in the last few weeks of December.

First: First week of December we did some major moving to my new house in Milton, Ontario. I have to admit that it took us a while to get settled but now have pretty much adjusted to the new place. Prior to that I also shot Rosmarie's and Marc's wedding in Kitchener. I 'll be posting some of the shots in a few days.

Second: Been busy preparing for the holidays and shopping for presents for everyone.

Third: I have been working on setting up a studio in my unfinished basement. Not the glamorous setting especially with some junks being stored in there. Did some test shots last week. Not too bad although I could use some better models next time instead of my brothers =)

Fourth: Im actually shooting a wedding this afternoon in Toronto which means I got to stop typing in my blog and get myself ready for the shoot.

Pre-Indian Wedding Ceremony

Last week, I was asked to shoot an Indian pre-wedding ceremony. It was a last minute request so I didn't really have much time to prepare. As soon as I got into the venue, I formatted all my memory cards and start recharging my batteries. I have never done an Indian wedding before so I didn't really know what to expect that night. All I knew was that the bride will be welcoming her future in-laws with gifts for her. This is what I love about shooting weddings. You get to be part of their day and learn different cultures.

Last weekend I got invited by Life In a Flash Photography to tag along to one of their weddings. I have to admit that it was one of the most interesting weddings I have shot..it involved harleys, planes, and a fun bridal party. I spent the whole Sunday editing some of the pics and uploaded a few pictures this morning. They are probably spening their honeymoon in Jamaica right now. Congratulations to both of them.

This Saturday I will be shooting together with Life in a Flash Photography . It will be Amand and Brad's wedding and the venue will be at the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum. I have shot my first 2 weddings with Dan in the past and this will be the 3rd time I will be working with him. He's a great photographer and have learned alot from him.

This would be a great time to get really creative photojournalistic shots. I will be publishing some photos from that day in the a week or so.

A Little Camera Know-How Will Pay Off Looking good in the mirror may not always translate to looking great in your photographs. It takes expertise and practice to be sizzling hot in your wedding pictures.
Practice Makes PerfectDead-On LightingPhotographers say amateurs don’t understand the significance of lighting – including the light as you apply your makeup. If you apply makeup with light shining either down on you or up on you from below, it casts shadows which are misleading and can result in makeup that is too heavy. The ideal makeup lighting should be straight on you, eliminating shadows.

Be Camera-Savvy
Take plenty of pictures before your wedding day to see what angles work best for you. Don’t always face directly into the camera. Let your eyes look into the lens, while your face is slightly turned. It gives the contours of the face a pretty outline.

Control Face Shine
When makeup is completed, apply a little loose translucent powder to hold the colour – especially on your nose, chin, and brow (the T-zone and bony areas of your face).

Easy On The Glitter
Shine can work against you. Choose just one area of your face to indulge in a little shimmer. Your eyes are the best choice. Shine on cheeks can translate to a greasy look in photographs.

Blush & Lips
Luscious Lips
A very dry lipstick (such as many matte lipsticks) hold their colour but can appear harsh in photographs. Similarly, there is a problem with very shiny lip-glosses, which can translate to sloppy-looking lips. Look for a lipstick with a satin finish.

Blush That Holds The Colour
If you always have worn a cream blush, you may want to experiment with powder blush.A cream blush can get absorbed into the skin, while a powder blush holds its colour for a longer period.
